Ball Bearings

Ball bearings are the most common type of bearings. They are efficient and precise bearings and are widely used in power tools, the automotive industry, home appliances, computer hardware, aerospace, and medical equipment, especially in applications with small radial loads and high speeds. They use rolling elements (usually steel balls) to reduce friction, thereby providing smooth rotation and efficient operation. However, ball bearings have a relatively small load capacity and are suitable for medium loads and high-speed work. They are not suitable for excessive impact loads or extremely high radial loads.

DESCRIPTION

Working principle of ball bearings:

The working principle of ball bearings is based on rolling friction. It consists of inner and outer rings, rolling elements (usually spherical) and cages. When the inner ring rotates, the rolling elements roll on the track of the outer ring, and the contact between the rolling elements and the inner and outer rings of the bearing is point contact (compared to the line contact of roller bearings), so it can effectively reduce friction.

Main features:

Smaller friction:

Because the rolling elements are spherical, the contact between the ball bearing and the inner and outer rings is point contact, which is significantly smaller than that of traditional sliding bearings. The reduction in friction not only reduces energy consumption, but also reduces wear.

Suitable for high-speed rotation:

Ball bearings can support higher speeds, especially for equipment that requires high-speed rotation, such as motors, fans, car wheels, etc.

Smaller load capacity:

Because ball bearings have a smaller contact surface, their load capacity is lower than that of roller bearings. Generally suitable for applications with medium or small radial loads.

Simple structure:

The structure of ball bearings is relatively simple, and installation and maintenance are relatively convenient. They have good precision and reliability.

Widely used:

Ball bearings are widely used in many fields such as industrial equipment, home appliances, and electronic products.

Classification of ball bearings:

Depending on the load direction and load, ball bearings can be divided into the following types:

Deep groove ball bearings:

Deep groove ball bearings are the most common type and can withstand radial loads and certain axial loads. Its outer ring groove is deeper, so it has higher rigidity and load-bearing capacity.

Application: Widely used in home appliances, power tools, automobiles, mechanical equipment and other fields.

Angular contact ball bearings:

The inner and outer rings of angular contact ball bearings have different contact angles and can withstand radial loads and axial loads acting simultaneously. Their contact angles can be adjusted according to needs and are usually used to withstand larger axial loads.

Application: Used in precision instruments, mechanical transmissions, automobile axles and other equipment that require higher precision.

Four-Point Contact Ball Bearings:

This type of bearing is characterized by each ball contacting the raceways of both inner and outer rings at the same time, so it can bear radial loads and large axial loads at the same time. Their design makes the load borne by each ball more uniform.

Application: Commonly used in precision equipment, machine tool spindles, etc.

Self-lubricating Ball Bearings:

Self-lubricating ball bearings use special lubricants or solid lubricating materials between the rolling elements and the inner and outer rings, reducing the need for traditional lubricants and are suitable for environments that are difficult to lubricate.

Application: Used in harsh environments, food machinery, and other applications that require cleanliness and no oil pollution.

Miniature Ball Bearings:

Miniature ball bearings are small, lightweight ball bearings that are usually used in precision instruments or small machinery.

Application: Commonly used in computer hard drives, power tools, instrumentation, and medical equipment, etc.

Spherical Ball Bearings:

Spherical ball bearings use spherical rolling elements, which can tolerate certain axial errors or misalignments, and therefore have good self-adjustment.

Application: Mainly used in mechanical parts that need to adapt to axial misalignment or tilt.
