Polytetrafluoroethylene gasket (PTFE gasket, commonly known as "Teflon gasket") is a sealing gasket pressed or turned from pure polytetrafluoroethylene resin or its modified materials. It has excellent chemical corrosion resistance, high and low temperature resistance, low friction and excellent insulation properties. It is one of the important materials in the sealing field of chemical, pharmaceutical, food and other industries.
1. Main features of polytetrafluoroethylene gaskets:
Excellent corrosion resistance
PTFE can withstand almost all strong acids, strong alkalis, oxidants, organic solvents and corrosive gases. It is the only choice for sealing extreme chemical media and is suitable for all environments with a pH range of 0~14.
Excellent high and low temperature resistance
It can work stably for a long time in the temperature range of -200℃ to +260℃ without brittle cracking or softening, and is suitable for equipment sealing under extremely cold or high temperature conditions.
Extremely low friction coefficient and self-lubrication
The surface is smooth, the friction is small, it is not easy to adhere to impurities or scale, it is easy to disassemble and reuse, and it is especially suitable for pure or pollution-free occasions.
Good electrical insulation performance
The dielectric constant is stable and the volume resistivity is extremely high. It can be used in the field of electrical and electronic sealing.
Non-toxic, tasteless, physiologically inert
It complies with food and medical safety standards such as FDA and USP, and can be used in drinking water, food, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other industries.
Aging-resistant, UV-resistant, not prone to aging and cracking
Long service life, suitable for long-term outdoor or harsh environment sealing.
2. Common types (by structure)
Pure PTFE gasket
Made from 100% polytetrafluoroethylene, medium flexibility, suitable for most chemical working conditions
Can be turned into any size, or cut into standard flange gaskets
Expanded PTFE gasket (ePTFE)
Modified by micro-expansion, soft texture, good compressibility, more suitable for rough or irregular sealing surfaces
Typical representative: GORE® ePTFE, China's local ePTFE expanded gasket
Modified PTFE gasket
Adding fillers such as glass fiber, carbon fiber, graphite, and ceramics to PTFE improves wear resistance, cold flow resistance, and pressure resistance
Applicable to high-pressure and high-stress flange connections
Coated gasket (PTFE coated with graphite or rubber core material)
The outer layer is PTFE, and the inner core is an elastic material (such as graphite, silicone rubber), combining softness and corrosion resistance
Mostly used for flange seals that require both flexibility and chemical resistance
III. Application areas
Chemical and petrochemical industries: acid and alkali pipelines, towers, and storage tank flange connection seals
Pharmaceutical and food equipment: reactors, filters, and drinking water device flange seals
Semiconductor and electronics industries: ultra-pure liquid delivery systems, vacuum chamber seals
Environmental protection equipment: waste gas treatment towers, desulfurization devices, strong oxidant medium systems
Military and aviation fields: high temperature and corrosion resistant sealing systems
