FKM / FPM sealing gaskets (also commonly known as Viton gaskets) are high-performance seals made of fluororubber (Fluoroelastomer) as the base material. They are widely used in working conditions with high temperature, high corrosion and high oil resistance requirements, and are particularly suitable for industries such as chemical, automotive, aviation, electronics and energy equipment.

FKM is the name in the ASTM standard, which stands for fluororubber elastomer.
FPM is the ISO name (commonly used in European standards).
→ The two essentially refer to the same fluororubber material, but with different names.
? Main features of FKM/FPM gaskets:
1. Excellent high temperature resistance
FKM/FPM gaskets can work for a long time in a continuous range of -20℃ to +200℃, and the high-performance formula can withstand +250℃. It is very suitable for high-temperature engines, hot oil systems and chemical reaction environments.
2. Excellent oil resistance and chemical resistance
Fluororubber has strong anti-swelling ability against various mineral oils, lubricating oils, fuels (gasoline, diesel, aviation kerosene), hydraulic oils, etc. At the same time, it can also resist a variety of chemical media, such as organic solvents, acids and alkalis, aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorides, etc., which is better than most conventional rubbers.
3. Good anti-aging and ozone resistance
It is not easy to age or crack under long-term high temperature or outdoor exposure, and it is resistant to UV and ozone erosion, with a long service life, which is very suitable for industrial seals and outdoor equipment seals.
4. Softness and elasticity
Although it is a high molecular synthetic rubber, FKM/FPM still has a certain flexibility and compression resilience, which is suitable for static sealing in flanges, pump bodies, and mechanical connections.
5. Small compression permanent deformation
It is not easy to deform or fail under long-term pressure, and the sealing performance is long-lasting and reliable, especially suitable for industrial equipment requiring high reliability.
❗ Notes:
High price: FKM material cost is much higher than ordinary rubber or plastic, and it is suitable for high-end working conditions with performance requirements.
Limited low temperature resistance: Ordinary FKM has reduced performance below -20℃ and is easy to harden and crack. If it is used in low temperature occasions, it is recommended to use special low-temperature fluororubber (resistant to -40℃).
Not resistant to certain strong alkaline media or organic amine solutions, the specific chemical compatibility should be confirmed when selecting.
